When you meet someone for the first time, you usually ask them for their life resume. You know the one, "where'd you grow up? how many siblings do you have? etc." I don't really like doing that. It's boring and easy. Instead of that, one of the questions I usually ask is "Where's your favorite place on Earth?"
It's fascinating to watch someone be taken to that place in their mind as they tell me the story of why. Try it sometime and I think you'll find small talk a bit more interesting.
I've been all over the world but for me it's a place closest to home: Big Sur. It's beauty is raw and a bit rough around the edges and I love it. There's a grand juxtaposition of the wild waves crashing against the height of the cliffs that is overwhelming in a really good way. If you've seen Wild with Reese Witherspoon, that's a good representation of the place. It's comforting knowing ultimately I am not in control. If God hung up his hat after he made "Big Sur", that would have been fine with me.
Anyways, that was a long winded introduction to Juniper Ridge, a fantastic label crafting products from wild plants grown in Big Sur and other great areas like that. They make everything from soap and cologne to incense. While I know JP put in a lot of damn hard work the beauty of it is they kind of just let the plants be front and center do it's thing. Which is to remind us humans to slow down a bit, take a deep breath and be humbled.
